Tantra for Singles: How Tantra Can Help You Reconnect With Your Body
As a tantra teacher, one of the most common questions I receive is how to practice tantra if you're single. Tantra is often linked to relationships and sexuality in the West, but it's much more than that. It’s a spiritual practice that starts with the Self. That’s why you don’t need a partner to practice tantra; it’s about your relationship with yourself. In this article, I will explain how tantra can work in a solo, loving relationship.
What is Tantric Masturbation?
Tantric masturbation is the best way for singles to experience tantric sex. It’s also called a self-pleasure ritual. Essentially, it’s an energy practice that helps you reconnect with your body and sexuality. The goal isn’t orgasm or ejaculation, but the buildup of sexual energy. This energy will fill your body with positive feelings that can last throughout the day!
How can you achieve this? When you masturbate, try to get as close as possible to the point of no return without actually reaching it. By holding back from orgasm, you build sexual energy that becomes integrated into your body, which can bring amazing benefits to your life and relationships.
How to Practice Tantra Solo
Tantra is a very personal practice where you reconnect with your whole self. Tantra teaches that each person is not isolated, but interconnected with everything in the Universe. To discover this, we explore our inner being by looking inward, through our body and consciousness. Conscious breathing, mindful use of the senses, and intentional movements are all tantric practices you can do alone.
Tantric Techniques to Try as a Single Person
There are many tantric practices for singles, but here are a few of my favorites:
Tantric Breathing
Try doing 2-3 sets of 30 seconds for each of the following exercises:
Technique #1: Breath of Fire
Breath of Fire is a cleansing breathing technique that energizes you. Don’t practice if you’re pregnant, have high blood pressure, or experience vertigo.
Sit up straight and breathe in and out through your nose. Contract your belly on the exhale and expand it on the inhale. Push the air out with your abdominal muscles as you exhale. Shorten each breath and speed it up. Both the inhale and exhale should be equal in strength and length.
Technique #2: Belly Breathing
Belly breathing is the most relaxed way to get enough air into your lungs. It slows your heart rate and calms you down. In tantra, belly breathing helps with ejaculation control and reaching the “Big O”.
Lie down on your stomach on a bed or flat surface. Pull in your belly as you exhale and push it out as you inhale. Breathe in for a count of 3, and exhale for a count of 5.
Technique #3: Kickstart Breathing
This breathing technique helps you connect to your body’s sensations and is great for when you feel stuck in your mind.
Place your fingers on the front of your neck. Find the small hollow spot at your throat. Tighten the back of your throat slightly so that you can make a light whispering sound as you breathe through your nose. Inhale for a count of 5, exhale for a count of 3.
Sounds and Movements
Technique #4: Tantric Sounds
Using sound intentionally is another way to practice tantra solo. Everything in existence vibrates, and each thing has a unique sound. When you make sounds, use your breath, or pranayama, in a controlled way. Making sounds during solo tantra allows you to experience the healing effects of pranayama. During intimate moments with a partner, sounds express arousal and pleasure.
Find a private space and start making raw sounds. You can imagine being an animal from the wild and mimic its sounds. Let the sounds flow naturally, and explore every vocalization that comes to you. Feel the vibrations in your body as you vocalize.
Technique #5: Tantric Dance
Tantrikas love to dance. Dance is not just physical movement, it’s also an expression of creativity. It brings out emotions and helps make the unconscious conscious, which is a key goal in tantra. Dance cultivates flexibility and mental calmness, both important in tantra. Wherever you are, just dance, and you’ll be practicing tantra solo.
Tantric Yoga
Technique #6: Traditional Tantra Yoga
Tantra is essentially a form of yoga. Traditional tantra yoga combines standing and floor positions with breath retention. It teaches you patience and a deeper understanding of your body’s limits.
You can learn how to practice traditional tantra yoga on your own with guidance.
Technique #7: Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini yoga combines physical postures, mystical sounds, symbolic gestures, and body contractions. It awakens Kundalini energy, a life-force energy (sexual energy) that resides within us. Check if there are Kundalini yoga classes available locally or online.
Tantric Meditation
Tantra is also about meditation, focused on symbols (Mantra) and geometric shapes (Yantra).
Technique #8: Yantra
Yantras are geometric diagrams, made up of shapes like triangles, squares, circles, and lotus petals. You can draw a yantra and use it for meditation.
After drawing a yantra, gaze at it to center your mind and connect to its energy. Once you finish meditating, you can color it in and add any elements that feel appropriate. Pay attention to how your emotions, mind, and body respond to your drawing.
Technique #9: Mantra
A mantra is a word or phrase repeated during meditation. It can be spoken, chanted, whispered, or silently repeated in your mind. Mantras are an important part of tantric meditation.
Choose a word or phrase to repeat. Sit or lie in a comfortable position and silently repeat it with each breath. Don’t focus too hard on it; simply let the mantra flow. If other thoughts arise, notice them and gently return to the mantra.

Consider Working with a Tantra Specialist
The main goal of tantra is to help you understand your true nature and eliminate suffering caused by misunderstandings. It guides you toward higher consciousness and closeness to your soul and truth. While you can practice tantra on your own, you may choose to work with a tantra specialist for support. Many professionals are available to assist with your practice and guide you on your journey.
